When you’re all alone in the dark you can either close your eyes and go to sleep or look for the light.
I entered the department store and tried my best to look like a real shopper. Something told me they were watching me. Maybe it was just my drug-induced paranoia, I told myself, half-convincingly. I picked up a pair of slacks, folding them neatly over my arm.
The heart of the 12-step model of
recovery involves turning the heart from selfishness and self-centeredness
toward a higher power and service toward others. Part of that process involves
a fearless and moral inventory during which the painful images of the past are
cleared away, allowing for the heart to be filled with light and love. Heart-to-heart
sharing of stories results in healing and changed lives. Like the caterpillar
that becomes a butterfly, this deep healing of the heart results in authentic
transformation. Healing begins in the heart. How can anyone recover from
addiction or any other issue without healing the heart?
