Don Kurth, MD, MBA, MPA, FASAM

    Mayor Donald Kurth has been a resident of Rancho Cucamonga for over 22 years. He received his education at Columbia University, graduating Phi Beta Kappa and cum laude from Columbia College in 1975, and from the Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons in 1979. He also studied medicine at Oxford University on scholarship from International College of Surgeons. He received his post-graduate medical training at Johns Hopkins and UCLA, and subsequently became certified in Emergency Medicine and Addiction Medicine. Currently, Dr. Kurth serves as Associate Professor at Loma Linda University where he also holds the position of Chief of Addiction Medicine at the Loma Linda University Behavioral Medicine Center in Redlands. He has been the recipient of the prestigious Robert Ward Johnson Fellowship in Developing Leadership in Reducing Substance Abuse from 2003 to 2006. Don also holds the title of Fellow of the American Society of Addiction Medicine (FASAM), an honor held by only 300 physicians worldwide. Dr. Kurth has also published numerous articles on health policy. He is active in both state and national medical societies, serving as Treasurer of the American Society of Addiction Medicine and as Immediate Past President of the California Society of Addiction Medicine. Dr. Kurth owns the Urgent Care Center and Alta Loma Medical Group in Rancho Cucamonga, which were established in 1983. He also founded the Children's Free Immunization Program, which has provided free immunizations to thousands of local children since 1983. In addition, he works closely with local sports teams to provide low cost sports physicals to children involved with AYSO, Pop Warner, Slow Pitch Softball, and many other youth sports organizations. Dr. Kurth also served as Councilmember for the City of Rancho Cucamonga, from 2002 to 2004. He was elected Mayor on November 7, 2006. Don married Dee Matreyek on July 31, 2004. Dee is the Founder and Director of the Restorative Justice Center of the Inland Empire. The Center works towards finding better ways to heal from the harmful effects of crime through juvenile victim offender mediation, conflict resolution skills trainings, and prisoner re-entry programs. Dr. Kurth served as President of the Rancho Cucamonga Chamber of Commerce after serving for many years on the Board of Directors. Following his Chamber of Commerce Presidency, he was elected to the Board of Directors of the Cucamonga County Water District (CCWD), where he served two consecutive four-year terms, including serving as Board President. During his tenure with CCWD, he served on numerous governance committees including acting as Chairman of the Public Relations Committee and serving as a member of the Legislative Committee. Regionally, he has also served as Vice President of the San Bernardino Special Districts Association. Dr. Kurth also served as Councilmember for the City of Rancho Cucamonga, from 2002 to 2004. He was elected Mayor on November 7, 2006.
