Ronald J. Hunsicker, D. Min., FACATA

    Dr. Ronald J. Hunsicker is currently the President/CEO of the National Association of Addiction Treatment Providers, Inc., a national health care organization representing the interests and concerns of some of the most preeminent addiction treatment programs in this country. NAATP was organized in 1978 and celebrated its 30th anniversary in 2008. Dr. Hunsicker has been in this position since Jan 1, 1997 as NAATP now represents over 310 providers of addiction treatment, having almost quadrupled the membership since assuming executive leadership in 1997. In addition to his leadership position with NAATP, Dr. Hunsicker is also a Fellow with the American College of Addiction Treatment Administrators (ACATA), a section of NAATP. Dr. Hunsicker brings management, organizational, clinical and leadership experience to NAATP. For over twenty-five years, Dr. Hunsicker has been involved in mental health and addiction treatment programs as well as pastoral care activities. With his theological background and his certification as a Clinical Pastoral Educator, Dr. Hunsicker has provided specialized training to over 200 clergy in accredited CPE programs. Dr. Hunsicker has also provided extensive therapeutic services as a trained marriage and family therapist. For nearly seven years, Dr. Hunsicker was the Vice President for Behavioral Health in a 500+ bed community hospital in Indiana. During that time he developed a unified “product line” for the hospital that featured addiction treatment as well as mental health and psychiatric services. Dr. Hunsicker has also been the Executive Director of an 82 and 120 bed freestanding addiction treatment program. As the Executive Director, Dr. Hunsicker assisted those programs to develop contracting strategies and alliance strategies that enabled them to be competitive in the marketplace. Dr. Hunsicker has also been the director of pastoral care departments in both mental health institutions as well as medical centers. Dr. Hunsicker’s received his undergraduate education at Bluffton College in Bluffton, Ohio where he majored in Political Science. He then earned a Master of Divinity degree from Mennonite Biblical Seminary in Elkhart, Indiana and a Doctor of Ministry from Princeton University, Princeton, New Jersey. Dr. Hunsicker has published numerous articles on marriage and family issues, addiction, management strategies and strategic alliances. “An Acute Care Hospital Challenge: Product Line Management, Matrix Management or Functional Management….Its implications for the Future of Addiction Treatment” is a monograph that Dr. Hunsicker has published as a Fellowship project for ACATA. In 1991 Dr. Hunsicker was awarded the ACATA Outstanding Achievement Award. Dr. Hunsicker also has a chapter published in a recently released publication Evidence-Based Practice Manual: Research and Outcome Measures in Health and Human Services. Dr. Hunsicker’s chapter Establishing Benchmark Programs Within Addictions Treatment reviews the creative work that NAATP has done since 1998 in the area of Benchmarking. Dr. Hunsicker is married with two adult children. He enjoys jogging, fishing, travel and is an IFR rated mulit-engine pilot.
