H. Spencer O'Neal
H. Spencer O’Neal, Dr.AD, holds degrees in Social Science, Educational Counseling & Psychology, and Addictive Disorders. He is a Licensed Educational Psychologist, Credentialed School Psychologist & Counselor, Certified Christian Counselor, and a Specialist in Addictions Treatment Counseling. His employment career began at age 15. He later enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and subsequently received a commission in the U.S. Navy. He retired from the U.S. military after twenty-four years of service.
Following completion of his military service, Dr. O’Neal began his career as a School Psychologist in a rural California school district. He later became licensed for private practice as an Educational Psychologist. He also served as an adjunct professor and intern supervisor for Azusa Pacific University. During this period, he became interested relapse prevention for individuals who were transitioning from addictions treatment facilities back into ‘real-world’ society. He desired to use his experience in psychological assessment & diagnostics to arm clients with knowledge of their true abilities and vocational aptitudes and provide them with occupational counseling prior to their exit from their recovery facility. Thus, he studied addictions and became certified as an addictions treatment specialist and earned a doctorate in addictive disorders from Breining Institute. Additionally, during this same period, he became certified as a Christian counselor to better assist those who seek traditional reconciliation and atonement.
Following conclusion of his career as an educational psychologist in California schools, he began volunteering his abilities and services more earnestly in the local community. He currently serves on the board of directors of a large non-profit drug & alcohol recovery facility. He has also served on the advisory board for a unique program “Our Children Project” that serves children who are victims of sexual abuse. This program is founded and directed by Carole Voll, LMFT and is unique in the field because of its proven effectiveness.
Today, Dr. O’Neal and his wife of nearly 50 years reside in the Arizona high desert. Although retired, he still volunteers his time and services within the local community.
