Tim Ryan
From Dope to Hope, a National Voice for Recovery and Resilience
Tim Ryan is not your typical recovery advocate. With more than twelve years sober, he stands as living proof that the wreckage of addiction can become raw material for purpose. Viewers first met him on A and E’s documentary Dope Man, watching him kick down trap-house doors and drag people toward treatment. That intensity is rooted in a personal tragedy he never hides.
“Six months after I was released from prison, as a direct result of my own heroin addiction, my twenty-year-old son Nick, who I paved the way to use deadly drugs, died of an overdose.
I take responsibility for his death.
I will spend the rest of my life trying to prevent that from happening to another addicted person or parent.”
Prison did more than sober Tim up. It ignited his mission. Behind razor wire he found recovery and a burning passion to help others. Upon release he founded A Man in Recovery Foundation, which funnels the vast majority of every dollar received into treatment scholarships, rapid-response interventions, and family education. His bestselling book, From Dope to Hope: A Man in Recovery, blends gut-level memoir with “Hope Homework” so readers leave every chapter armed with action steps rather than just inspiration.
Tim is best known by three words: The Hope Dealer. He travels from high-school gyms to congressional hearings speaking the language of solutions in the middle of an opioid crisis that claims hundreds of American lives each day. He tells executives that overdose costs companies more than office rent. He tells inmates that excuses end where ownership begins. He tells families that recovery grows stronger in community than in isolation.
He speaks hope.
He lives recovery.
Partnership amplifies his reach. Tim’s wife, actress and long-time advocate Jennifer Gimenez, joins him on stages worldwide. Their joint keynotes show audiences that healed individuals can build a healed family and use that bond to heal communities.
Each morning Tim wakes before dawn, pours strong coffee, kisses Jennifer, and heads to another airport with two essentials: a dog-eared copy of From Dope to Hope and an unshakable commitment to keep Nick’s memory alive by delivering someone else’s miracle. The invitation is open. Read the book, share it forward, and keep dealing hope.
