Letter from the Editors – Third Edition

“Can words describe the fragrance of the breath of spring?” – Neltje Blanchan

Dear Friends, Colleagues, Visitors and Members:

Who doesn’t love the spring season with its air of freshness and renewal?  Seeing the delicate Calla lilies once again in bloom, we’re reminded of the upcoming religious holiday season with its message of recovery and re-birth.

In the spirit of seeing our efforts made manifest, Addiction Medicine may be in the springtime of its journey. In this third edition of Recovery View, we are delighted to feature Dr. Donald Kurth’s article: “Vision for the New World: Policy goals for Addiction Professionals”. Dr. Kurth applauds the passage of the Mental Health Parity Bill as a new frontier for Addiction Medicine, while discussing the continuing public health issues of discrimination and lack of access to treatment.  Our headline article by Dr. Joe Cruse, opens the discussion about “Smoking:  The Ignored Addiction”.

With much appreciation to our distinguished authors, we offer our readers and members one article for each of the diverse subject categories–gambling, older adults, spirituality, eating disorders and adolescent trauma. We trust you’ll find it a good read, worthy of the educational purpose we intend.  Please visit the Continuing Education page to receive your CEU’s.

Finally, a special thanks to our members for contributing to our resource directory and adding to the event calendar.  The calendar has been filling up with network and education events in the recovery community.  The directory is growing with excellent information and what a great opportunity to meet professionals while learning about each other’s specialties.

Have a wonderful spring season with many new adventures and much laughter!

Jim and Josie Herndon
